The Art Wax Werke is a nearly 45-year-old company founded in Cincinnati, Ohio, by two brothers of German descent, Allen & Don Fruechtemeyer. In 2019, the company was sold to Theresa (Hering) Bevis to carry on the tradition of making hand-cast wax ornaments and decorative wall plaques.
The old art began in Germany, likely in Nuremberg, during the Middle Ages. Bakes used honey to sweeten their baked goods, and when they were not using the specially carved wooden molds for baking gingerbread, they poured beeswax into the molds to make beautiful decorative items, the forerunners of our Christmas tree ornaments and greeting cards. Because most people could not read or write, the molded waxes were often used to educate, especially Bible stories and illustrations of everyday life.
We are pleased to hand-pour wax into beautiful molds made man years ago by the Freuchtemeyer Brothers.
Also, Theresa Hering (a.k.a. Terry Bevis) is the Ohio representative of House on the Hill Cookie Molds. These beautiful items are hand-produced in the United States and are used for making traditional German Springerle, gingerbread, and/or shortbread cookies, as well as fondant and crafts. They are of a modern-day composition of wood and resin and closely imitate the original carved wooden molds of years ago.
